Back in the day, the quintessential Canadian thing was to hitchhike from coast to coast. But in the 21st century, this adventure isn’t limited to humans.
The hitchBOT, a creation capable of limited conversation on a myriad of topics, is as friendly and charming a companion that you could ask for. It hitchhiked across Canada in only 26 days, relying entirely on the kindness of strangers. Its human appearance and adorable outfit give it an extra layer of charm.
After success in Canada, the hitchBOT traveled around Europe and a brief journey in the United States. Unfortunately the intrepid adventurer was waylaid by vandalizers in Philadelphia in 2015. But before it met its untimely demise, the little robot also attended a wedding, several rock concerts, and a comic convention. It even got its painting done in the Netherlands. While its time with us may have been brief, we can learn from hitchBOT that there’s a traveler in all of us.
