While studying in London, I visited Ireland for a weekend along with a small group of friends. None of us had been there before, and by our last day in Ireland, we had run out of touristy things to do. We asked an employee at the National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin for ideas, and he gave us a veritable pot of gold of options. We took his suggestion to travel to Howth, a small fishing town on Ireland’s east coast.
The beautiful, rocky coastline was dotted with patches of green grass and white daisies. Seagulls flew in the cloudy skies above the enchantingly green water (which confirmed that Ireland can securely claim the color green). We wandered up and down the coast, out to the harbor’s lighthouse, and then made our way to the market. Vendors were selling jewelry, home decor, and clothing as well as all kinds of delicious foods, both sweet and savory. Alongside the market were scores of seafood restaurants advertising their freshly caught items on the menu.
We only spent a few hours in Howth, but we were so glad we had visited this absolutely lovely village. This St. Patrick’s Day, if you’re looking to celebrate in Dublin, be sure to make a stop in Howth!
