Escape Your Own Escapade

Are you a puzzle whiz or a clue-finding master? Have you ever wanted to solve a murder mystery or pull off a heist (without the illegal aspect, of course)? Or maybe you’re just looking for a fun activity to do with your friends or family—in any case, an escape room could be just the thing for you.

Over the last decade, escape rooms have become extremely popular worldwide. In most rooms, you work together with your group to complete interactive puzzles to either solve a mystery or escape the room (or rooms), all while immersed in a themed storyline. Whether you’re an escape room veteran looking for a new challenge or a newbie wanting to try one out for the first time, here are some of the most popular escape rooms found around the world, each available in English as well as the local language.

Bunschoten, Netherlands

The Dome is one of the highest-ranking escape rooms in the world. Found in the town of Bunschoten in the Netherlands, this room has a futuristic cyber theme and impressive digital features you won’t often find in other escape rooms. You can even watch a recording of the highlights of your escape after completing the room. Escape Room Nederland designed The Dome to feel like a hallucination, as per its unique storyline. Attempting this detailed sci-fi escape room is a must if you are traveling in the Netherlands.

Athens, Greece

In Greece, the Paradox Project team has created a storyline with two escape room experiences. The second of these experiences, Paradox Project 2: The Bookstore, is another one of the highest-ranking escape rooms in the world. Disguised as an old bookstore on the street, this escape room has a game space that expands in unexpected ways and an unusually long game clock of 200 minutes (most escape rooms run for about 60 minutes). But keep in mind that The Bookstore is a direct sequel story-wise to Paradox Project 1: The Mansion. So, if you’re wanting to tackle The Bookstore, why not make the most of your visit to Athens by completing both of these extensive escape room experiences?

Louisiana, USA

Cutthroat Cavern, made by 13th Gate Escape, presents the traditional escape experience in a storyline where players attempt to solve the mysteries of the ancient ruins they have fallen into and escape before the tide comes in and floods the cavern. Though the room won’t actually flood, the incredible design of this escape room will still take your breath away. Not only is Cutthroat Cavern huge and immersive, but the chambers of the cave even have an area where players are advised to remove their shoes because of all the sand. Cutthroat Cavern plunges you into an epic adventure worth a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
